Tetris Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any major honors show draws close, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
