Police mentioned they were alerted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important political figure stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
